Broadview University-West Jordan is lucky to have a medical assistant program chair with as much experience, enthusiasm and teaching ability as Brooke Pearson. Brooke is not only a certified medical assistant, but an awesome teacher who connects with her students. The students at Broadview really get prepared for the healthcare field and enjoy their journey throughout the program, and Brooke is a huge part of that process. I was lucky enough to catch up with her to ask a few questions.

Tell me about yourself

I am originally from Nevada and moved to Utah about nine years ago. I decided to go into the medical assisting field because, like many of my students, I wanted to help others and the medical field interested me. I am a certified medical assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants. I have worked in specialties such as OBGYN, ear, nose and throat, family practice, mental health, nutrition and pediatrics and loved working with people with physical and intellectual disabilities.

Why is it important to get to know your program chair?

Here at Broadview, your program chair knows the ins and out of your career field. They have worked in the field and know what it takes to get a job and keep that job. The better your program chair knows you, the better they can help you find externships and jobs that are best suited for you. In addition, your program chairs cares about you and your education and they truly do want to get to know you!

What advice do you have for students as they prepare to choose a school?

Make sure you know what you want to go into and research the schools you are interested in. Visit them and attend a school that you feel comfortable at and that fits your needs. Every school is so different and has different things to offer their students. Make sure that the school you choose has the tools to help you achieve your goals!

Why choose Broadview’s health science programs?

Broadview University has a very thorough program with great instructors that are very familiar with what it takes to make it in the healthcare field. Students learn everything from taking vital signs to drawing blood from a hand or arm to assisting with minor surgeries. The instructors here truly care about their students and go out of their way to help them succeed.

What are your hobbies?

When I am not working at Broadview, I enjoy spending time with my family in the outdoors—camping, hiking and biking. I also love to eat and enjoy cooking delicious desserts and dinners for my family!
